Before your first shift.

These downloads contain the full current campaign. This is a pre-alpha playtest: you may find rough edges, and your reports help shape the next build.

macOS

  1. Download the universal Mac ZIP and let it finish.
  2. Double-click the ZIP to extract it. Move SPACE BASED to your Applications folder.
  3. Open the app. This pre-alpha is ad-hoc signed and has not been notarized by Apple, so macOS may ask you to confirm opening software from outside the App Store.
  4. If macOS blocks opening, check System Settings → Privacy & Security for the app's opening option. Only open the copy you downloaded from this site. Apple’s opening instructions.

The package includes Apple Silicon and Intel versions. Native Intel hardware testing remains part of the playtest.

Windows

  1. Download the Windows x64 ZIP.
  2. Right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. Keep the extracted files together. Microsoft’s extraction guide.
  3. Open SPACE BASED.exe inside the extracted folder.

The pre-alpha is unsigned, so Windows may show a publisher warning. Native Windows compatibility and performance are still being evaluated.

Saving and updating

The game saves locally. Use Continue from the main menu to resume. New Game replaces the current campaign only after confirmation. Keep the app's saved data when replacing an older installation. The browser demo, development app, and production game each use their own saves.

Browser demo

The first load downloads substantial 3D assets. Keep the tab open while it loads. If the scene does not appear, try a recent browser with hardware acceleration enabled, close other heavy 3D tabs, or try the downloadable edition. Touch controls are included, but phone and tablet compatibility has not yet been established across devices.

Sending useful feedback

Press F8 (or Fn + F8 on some keyboards) during play, or choose Feedback from the main menu. Tell us what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you expected. You can choose to include your current objective and a few device details. If sending fails, your draft stays available for another attempt.

Please avoid names, addresses, passwords, or other personal information. Read how feedback is handled.

What we're testing

New-player clarity, campaign progression, save and Continue, controls, audio, and performance on different hardware. We have not set minimum hardware requirements yet.
